Who provides the geology knowledge?

Andy Duncan has a BSc in Applied Geology and MSc (by research) in Sedimentology.  His geological career has spanned over three and a half decades and was inspired by an early love of minerals and fossils.  He has studied mining, petroleum geology and engineering.  He was awarded Chartered Engineer status by the UK Engineering Council in 1987 by virtue of his Professional Membership of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoM3). He has retained a deep love of geology and is constantly renewed and invigorated by every new personal geological discovery.  For many years he has worked in training and fieldwork and knows how much pleasure you will derive from our geological images.  He is one of the few geologists in the world with an intuitive, almost magical, feel for geological formations and will gladly share this with you.  To find out more about Andy's background and qualifications , click the link to his LinkedIn profile under the photo.

WHo's the power behind the throne?

Picture
The owner of this sunny smile is Kerry Duncan.  Kerry has a business major with a distinction in travel and tourism.  She is a freelance writer and popular blogger of travelogues among other interesting subjects.  Like Andy, she has traveled over half the world, often solo and always with excitement.  She has worked for years at an international airport and is excellent with travel emergencies and problems.  Her counselling skills soothe even the most distressed passengers. This photograph of her, taken by Andy, in Baja, Mexico - leaning against some local granite - is featured in beautiful faces of men, women and children and mundo global de fotografias on Flickr.

What's in a name?

Picture
These precious little critters are the inspiration behind the name and logo of Gattageo.  Gata is Spanish for female cat and their Mommy (Kerry) is descended from Spanish conquistadors.  Andy (Daddy) is the Geo, Greek for Earth.  Gattageo’s banner is the beautiful striped tail of our oldest cat, Mrs. Stripe, and that linked visually with sedimentary strata.  All three animals are rescued feral cats from Egypt.  Kerry and Andy volunteered at an animal shelter while living in Cairo and took the three cats least likely to be rehomed to our forever home in Texas.  A street cat in Egypt has an approximate life span of 2 to 3 years but like all immigrants they have thrived and are now geriatric kitties, aged approximately 13 to 15 years. Not only do they represent our love for nature but are a testament to the resilience and wonder of the earth and its inhabitants.
